Lourdes

The world famous town of Lourdes is only short drive away. In addition to the sanctuary sites of interest include the hill fortress and museum of the Spainish and French Pyrenees. There's also a funicular railway that takes you up the Pic du Jer panorama viewing point. Little Lourdes is a miniature world where you can discover the history and birth of Lourdes in 1858. And don't forget the Grévin wax works museum. Nearby the Grottes de Betharram are worth a visit.

Tarbes

Our regional capital nestles up against the Pyrenees Mountains that give the department its name. Already established before the Romans came, the city has been an equestrian and military centre since Napoléon established the national stud in 1806. With its theatres, music school and art galleries the city caters for all cultural tastes. See the city's tourist office for more details.

Pau

Pau has a long history with a medieval chateau at its core but in the early 1800's its beauty and climate was discovered by the British, Americans and Russians who built grand villas in and around the city as holiday homes. Ever since it has maintained the air of a cosmopolitan resort with its casino, race track and numerous museums. See the city's tourist office for more details.

Auch

Auch, capital of the Gers department, is built on the steep slopes of two hills that face each other across the River Gers. Worth a visit for its magnificent cathedral alone, it’s a pleasure just to wander around and discover the architecture and museums that dot the city. See the tourist office for more details and suggested walking itineraries.
