Pic du Midi

Reputedly the summit with the best view of the Pyrénées. Accessible by cable car all year round there's a museum covering the history of the mountain as a weather station (since 1774) and of astronomy (there has been an observatory on the mountain since 1884). Pyrenees National Park

A protected sanctuary of some 45,000 hectares to observe wild fauna (lizards, birds of prey, marmots) and flora (1,200 species). Created in 1967, the park spreads over the Aspe valley to the west, the Néouvielle massif to the east, and stops at the Spanish border. It contains several of the most beautiful summits in the Pyrenean range: the Midi d’Ossau peak, Balaïtous, Vignemale, Marboré, the cirques of Gavarnie, Lys, Troumouse, Estaubé, Barroude, and some natural sights such as the famous waterfalls of the Pont d’Espagne and the Brèche de Roland. Scenic train

The highest scenic train in Europe takes you up to 2,000m to lake Artouste. This half-day excursion takes you thorough some beautiful mountain scenery. See Le Petit Train for more details.

Pont d'Espagne

In the heart of the Pyrenees National Park the Pont d'Espagne is a beautiful spot. Take the cable car up the mountain and then the chair lift still higher to Artouste lake and see Vignemale at 3,298m the highest peak in the French Pyrenees. See Pont d'Espagne for more details.
